As can be seen from the 1991 programme cover, the Ayrshite Cup was an impressive trophy and one which Ayr United and Kilmarnock have, in the main, competed for over the years. Th elast final was played in season 1996/97 with Ayr United being the winners and therfore holding on to the trophy.
Local rivalry was at ts height during April/May 1936 when Ayr United defeated Kilmarnock 7-0 in the Ayr Charity Cup Final only two weeks after Kilmarnock had beaten United 8-0 in the Ayrshire Cup Final (1934/35 final).
