1951 was Festival of Britain year and massive national celebrations took place. Football was not to be left out and matches took place up and down the length and breadth of the country. Ayr United took part by playing a series of matches in England, four matches in almost as many days. The fourth, and final, match was against Brighton and Hove Albion on 19th May 1951 at the Goldstone Ground.
Ayr were at the end of a tight and tiring serious of matches when they lined up against Brighton. Ayr's 5-1 defeat is probably evidence to that schedule. Dougie Stockdale was the only Ayr scorer.
A matchday programme was produced.
