Bristol Rovers have visited Somerset Park on two occasions. The first was on 10th August 1982 when Ayr United produced a deplorable performance to lose 4-1 - being down 4-0 at half time. It was Brian Ahern who put some sort of smile on the 947 spectators who turned up.
A programme was not produced for this match.
United did not fair any better when the teams next met on 22nd July 2003 when the Ayr United starting lineup was a 4-4-2 format with Hillcoat, Lyle, McGrady, Burgess, Kerr, Latta, Chaplain, Black, Conway, Kean and Whalen. Despite a rash of subs, Rovers put 5 goals past the home defence. Although the result flattered the visitors they at least took the chances they had. The 5-0 final score typified the season ahead.
Ayr United did at least produce a match programme for this debacle.
