Bryan Robson's Middlebrough came to Somerset Park on 2nd August 1994 for their first visit to the Ayrshire Coast when 1,664 saw a consolation Gilzean goal being Ayr's only response in a disappointing 2-1 defeat.

For Ayr it was the inevitable start to a season under manager Simon Stainrod who himself did not have much longer at Ayr
