The first clash between the clubs was on 12th November at Somerset Park when Ayr won 3-0 in the 2nd division league encounter.
Honours were even for the return match on 3rd December at Dundee Hibs' Tannadice Park (now the home of Dundee United) when the score was 1-1.
The following season United recorded a 6-0 win at Ayr on 21st October 1911, no doubt fuelled by the renewal of the offer from Stewart's Tailors of Ayr, to give a fur overcoat to any player who scored two goals or more in a match. Charlie Phillips and Switcher McLaughlan being the proud owners of such by the end of the game.
A 2-2 draw was the result later in the season at Dundee.
A 0-0 draw was recorded at Somerset Park on 16th November 1912 and United suffered a 1-0 defeat in Dundee on 18th January 1913.
