Away to Stranraer

Ayr United have always found success at Stair Park, Stranraer a reasonably straight forward affair and had a 2-1 win there in an early visit on 20th August 1958, although United did have a series of defeats in the early to mid 60's heralded by a 7-2 reverse on 13th April 1963, the last being in December 1964.
By the time that Ayr again travelled the 50 miles south to Stranraer 10 years later for a Scottish Cup 4th Round match on 16th February 1974 fortunes had indeed turned and United ran out 7-1 winners.
The following seasons saw Ayr win almost at will and again had a victory on 2nd May 1987 by 3-1.
United won 2-1 in the new year derby match on 2nd January 1988 on the way to the second division championship.
Matches after this season were scarce though they met in season 2001/02 when United won 2-1 on 14th August 2001 in the Challenge Cup United were again winners in a Challenge Cup match on 6th August 2002 by 2-1 at Stair Park.
Season 2004/05 saw Ayr United and Stranraer located in the Scottish Second division with the clubs playing six times that season. An early league defeat on 21st August 2005 was a blow to
Ayr's promotion prospects. Ayr recovered to win a Scottish cup replay match match at Stranraer on 25 January 2005 by 2-0 and followed this up by a league win there by 3-1 league win on 19th February.
2006/07 has already seen Ayr win 3-1 at Stair Park on league business on 4th November 2005.
When the clubs meet this Saturday however, its a relgation play off place that they are both trying to avoid.
