Ayr lost 1-0 to Arbroath of Tuesday night in the Scottish Reserve League Cup in a dreadful match. United had been favourites after a glittering 4-1 win against Partick Thistle in the semi-final.
In a season with full of history and outstanding performances it may seem churlish to criticise the record of no silverware from four finals this season. To lose against in Rangers in the League Cup Final was understandible, to fail to beat Kilmarnock in the Woman's final annoying, to lose Rangers in the Scottish Youth Cup Final heartbreaking but then to lose to Arbroath in a Reserve League Cup Final is downright disaterous.
Should we laugh or cry? Well, we do what we have always done at Ayr, cry over what might have been, re-group, say it doesnt matter and plan for next season.
