Saturday's defeat by Cowdenbeath has turned out to be the last throw of the dice for United manager Robert Conner and his assitant Robert Reilly.
The writing has been on the wall with the Somerset Park recent slump which has seen them in eighth place in Division Two, losing their last four matches. United looked in good shape at Christman having attained a second place spot over the festive period, but results have gone against the 'two Rabs' since then
Connor, who had two spells as a player with Ayr United, was made manager of the club in May 2005.
Connor first took over on a temporary basis in March of that year, following the resignation of Mark Shanks, and he saved the Honest Men from relegation. However, he now leaves the club in severe danger of dropping into division three.
