The Homecoming Scottish Cup tie against Lochee United for today (7th December) has been postponed again. The rescheduled game is due to be played on Wednesday 10th December. The clubs will confirm all details on Monday 8th December after further consultation with the SFA.
Yesterday, and before this most recent postponement, Ayr United Chariman, Lachlan Cameron, explained the reasons behind trying to playthe match 24 hours after the previous call off.
He said
"There have been questions asked about the reasons for trying to get our rescheduled game on just 24 hours after it was postponed. The reason for this is that it is the best option out of an array of really bad options. Our goal is to put the game on at a time when the maximum amount of fans can attend. If it does not go ahead tomorrow, we are in the unenviable position of having to play the game on Wednesday during the day.
We have appealed to the SFA to look at other options, but they are insisting that we stay within the rules of the cup . This means that there is no chance of either playing at a neutral venue, nor is there an option to play the tie at Somerset . There is also no chance of it being played on a weekend due to league fixtures taking precedence.
If the game is postponed again tomorrow, we will try again on Wednesday and then twice a week every week until the fixture is fulfilled. We are all obviously very disappointed and are hoping that tomorrow, the game goes ahead against the odds. The Club appreciate the support and interest surrounding this tie from our fans, and are actively doing our best to come to a resolution that is satisfactory for all parties."
The interest in this tie from an Ayr United point of view is that the winners of this tie play Ayr's Ayrshire rivals Kilmarnock - a team two divisions above the Honest Men.
A win for Ayr against Lochee will set up an interesting local derby against the Premier League sde.
