Stalwart Ayr United historian, Duncan Carmichael is at it again with another exciting book published on Saturday 21st September. The book depicts Ayr United's 50 best matches. Victories depicted go back to a time when most of us won't remember and the 3-1 win at Brockville in 1913 and the 5-0 victory over kilmarnock in 1919 are classic examples. The book is launched in the aftermath of Ayr's superb cup exploits of 2001/02 but this is juct co-incidental to the book launch although those superb semi-final and cup final match from last year are prominent in the book. The pages of the book also recount moments of renown like Andy walker's chipped penalty goal against Kilmarnock in that great cup victory, John Gallagher's Christmas eve penalty save against Rangers and the greatest miskicked United goal of all time by Willie Japp. It's all here and is another must for all Ayr fans.
The cover has a now very familiar picture of Yogi's celebrations after Ayr's semi final win over Hibs last year, but as famous now, and included in the book, is the picture of Rabbie Burns' statue draped with an Ayr scarf in the days before that March cup final.
The book is well priced at £12.00 and can be bought from Ottakers book store in Ayr or from the publishers
