Ayr kept their fourth league clean sheet in a row and moved to the summit of the Scottish Second Division with a 1-0 victory over Alloa.
With both sides heading into the game level on points in third and fourth position the game was set up as a classic six-pointer.
The sides cancelled each other out for the majority of the game until the crucial moment of the match in the 64th minute when a Ryan McCann cross from the right was guided past Alloa `keeper Steven Robertson by the head of William Easton.
Despite Alloa's best-efforts the game failed to produce any more goals and Ayr held on for the victory.
In addition to going three points ahead of Alloa, both Brechin and Livingston dropped points to pave the way for Ayr to take top-spot.
