Alloa denied by battling Ayr
A goalless draw at Somerset Park saw struggling Ayr hold off second-placed Alloa in their Second Division clash.
But it was not easy for the home side with Alistair Brown being tested early on after he parried a fizzing Nick Low shot.
Ayr did not make it easy for the visitors with David Sinclair's inswinging corners causing problems for the Alloa defence.
Sinclair also had an 18-yard shot blocked by Stephen Simmons after 37 minutes. Shortly after, Alloa's Ross McCord received a yellow card for unsporting behaviour.
After the break Alloa came out firing on all cylinders and Martin Grehan's header was tipped over the crossbar by Brown.
And despite a handful of substitutions with Alloa's Grehan and McCord being replaced by Lewis Bonar and Edward Ferns, and Ayr's
Darren McGill making way for Mark Shankland and David Winters being replaced by Ross Robertson, neither side could find a winner.
In the closing stages Alloa's Low shot wide from 12 yards, and Ayr's Ryan McStay saw his 25-yard effort miss the target.
