Holmes sweet Holmes
Graeme Holmes' stunning long-range effort capped a good afternoon for Alloa as they eased to a 2-0 win at Ayr.
Calum Elliot went close to putting the visitors into a 22nd-minute lead but his right-footed strike was kept out by Graeme Smith.
Smith was unable to prevent Ryan McCord from breaking the deadlock five minutes later when the former Airdrie midfielder rifled home his fourth goal in six games with a low left-footed drive.
Paul Hartley's men continued to press after the interval and went close to extending their advantage after 56 minutes when Kevin Moon saw his effort from the edge of the area saved by the feet of Smith.
The Wasps went even closer to sealing their win in the closing stages when Elliot diverted Martin Grehan's 88th-minute cross against the post.
The three points were eventually sealed when Holmes found the top corner from distance in the final minute.
