Paul Cairney fires Honest Men to victory
Paul Cairney's long-range strike proved decisive as mid-table Ayr won 1-0 against high-flying Queen of the South in the Ladbrokes Championship.
Midfielder Cairney found the bottom left corner from distance seven minutes into the second half to leave the second-placed Doonhamers without a win in four league games.
Ayr substitute Kevin Nisbet had earlier seen a low shot tipped past the post by visiting keeper Lee Robinson, while Stephen Dobbie had numerous opportunities to open the scoring for the away side.
Midfielder Dobbie also came close to rescuing a point late on but his right-footed volley flew narrowly off target.
