Early double enough for Ayr
Two early goals were enough for Ayr to see off Stranraer with a 2-1 win at Somerset Park.
Adam Hunter gave the Honest Men a dream start as he connected with a David Sinclair cross to smash the ball into the roof of the net inside 10 minutes.
Ayr soon doubled their lead when former Rangers trainee Michael Donald leapt highest to nod home after good work from John Robertson to put the hosts in control.
Stranraer could have reduced the deficit midway through the first-half, but Robert Love's strike was smartly kept out by the feet of Graeme Smith, while Liam Buchanan was unlucky not to extend Ayr's lead after seeing his long-distance pile-driver narrowly miss the target just after half-time.
The Blues set up a nervous finish courtesy of top scorer Craig Malcolm's right-footed finish after 68 minutes, but Donald's header proved decisive as Ayr held on to keep their play-off dreams alive.
