Mark Roberts scored twice as nine-man Ayr claimed a 4-3 win over Stenhousemuir.
The home side took the lead inside six minutes after Gary Thom fouled Alan Trouten in the area, which allowed top scorer Mark Roberts to score from the spot.
Stenhousemuir got a penalty of their own after 33 minutes when Jim Lauchlan made an ill-timed challenge on Scott Dalziel, which Ross Clark calmly put away.
Before the break the hosts were reduced to 10 men after Alan Trouten was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Sean Dickson.
The dismissal did not affect Ayr as first, Jim Lauchlan netted from six yards in the 51st minute, before Ross Robertson scored with a similar effort three minutes later.
Roberts then added a fourth with a strike into the top corner from 12 yards out.
However, Simon Lynch and Jordan Smith pulled two goals back with close range efforts and despite Jonathan Tiffoney`s dismissal, Ayr were able to hold out for the win.
