Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ayr United both had to settle for a point after a goalless First Division draw in the Highlands.
Robert Eagle almost capitalised on an error by Ayr goalkeeper Craig Samson but Kevin James made a crucial block. 0-0 at half time was a welcome break for Ayr as Inverness had the better chances, but no massive gulf in class, and Brian Reid was the happier man at the interval.
The home side claimed unsuccessfully for a penalty early in the second half when Richie Foran went down in the box and then United had a penalty claim dismissed when Willie Easton tumbles in the box. Ref Brian Winter puts the whistle to his mouth, but for some reason thinks better of it and United are refused what looks like a stone-waller.
with 20 minutes to go this match could have gone either way but Ayr were finishing the stronger against Terry Butchers men.
As the match petered out, Dani Sanchez came close with an 18-yard effort at the Ayr goal which thankfully stays in tact.
Nevertheless its Ayr who finished the stronger and a draw was more than a fair result.
After two games now Ayr are certainly begging to show signs of living with the first division.
