Red-hot Bryan Prunty fired his fifth and sixth goals of the season to keep Ayr top of Scottish Second Division.
The in-form striker struck a first-half double to put Ayr in control against the Spiders netting his first as early as the second minute.
Prunty doubled United's lead on 26 minutes when he headed home a cross from full-back Allan Dempsie.
Tony Quinn pulled one back for Queens on 50 minutes and sub David Murray missed a late sitter to steal a point.
The result keeps Ayr on top of the Division on goal difference from Raith Rovers.
With a blank week next weekend United await their trip to Stranraer on 13th August.
